Pensacola, Fla. – On Thursday, June 11th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida (BBBSNWFL) recognized Big Sister Sally Pink as the 2020 Okaloosa County Big of the Year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and respect to social distancing, this recognition took place virtually over Zoom with her family, friends, her Little Sister, and members of the BBBSNWFL board and staff. The BBBSNWFL staff chose Sally for this honor because she is dedicated and passionate about the importance of mentorship especially for her Little. “I am so grateful to this day that I decided to do this. I wouldn’t change it for the world,” Said Sally Pink. “I can’t wait to watch my Little grow up!”
Sally and her Little have been matched for over a year. Sally loves to be around children. She recently graduated from the University of West Florida and before COVID19, Sally was a substitute teacher with the Okaloosa County School District. Sally has such a big heart and always puts others before herself. During the time that Sally has been matched with her Little, they have grown to become great friends. Sally helps her Little with her reading and motivates her to always be her best. Sally also encouraged
her husband to get involved with BBBSNWFL. He got matched right before COVID-19 and only got to meet his Little once in person. Like many others, Sally and her husband were worried about maintaining their relationships with their Littles during COVID-19. Sally’s husband, Daniel said, “Sally used her creativity to think outside of the box and came up with fun ideas for us to drop off on our Littles’ porches.” Sally puts her whole heart into everything that she does and the BBBSNWFL agency is lucky to have a Big Sister like her!
